The stabbing death of New Haven County resident Justin Sloan Sr., age 44, of Meriden, took place around 6:20 p.m., Saturday, July 8 in Meriden.
According to Meriden Polie, officers responded to the area of the 800 block of Hanover Road for a report of a man lying in the roadway.
Officers discovered a man with suspected stab wounds. Initial officers attempted to render medical aid to the victim who was transported to a local hospital where he was pronounced dead.
The Meriden Police Department investigation led to the identification of Josue Ortega-Torres, age 19, of Meriden, as a suspect in this case.
Ortega-Torres was taken into custody after a several-hour standoff at his home on Melville Ave.
The Meriden Police Department Negotiation Team with the assistance of the Patrol Division, and the Meriden SWAT team helped facilitate Ortega-Torres’ surrender without further incident, the department said.
Once in custody, Ortega-Torres was charged with murder and is being held on a $5 million dollar bond.
"The Meriden Police Department would like to offer our condolences to the family of Justin Sloan Sr. for this senseless act of violence," the department said.
